As soon as your email becomes a burden to read, like the following email from Parley Pro, you\u2019ve lost:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/salesfolk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/parley_cold_emails.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2218\" src=\"https:\/\/salesfolk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/parley_cold_emails.png\" alt=\"how to fix parley pro's bad sales email\" width=\"569\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/salesfolk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/parley_cold_emails.png 1024w, https:\/\/salesfolk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/parley_cold_emails-300x201.png 300w, https:\/\/salesfolk.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/parley_cold_emails-768x514.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 569px) 100vw, 569px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>What&#8217;s wrong with this email<\/h3>\n<p>The best cold emails create interest with a short, easily readable, and highly persuasive piece of copy. Everything about your email should beam with the subliminal message, \u201cI\u2019m helpful and worth your time.\u201d And that begins before you even start reading.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s talk about why Parley Pro\u2019s email <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">does not<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> give us the warm, fuzzy feeling of helpfulness we\u2019re looking for:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s too long and the blocks of text are too dense, which is an automatic turn-off to the recipient.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sentences are too wordy and jargony, which makes it difficult to read.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first sentence doesn\u2019t hook the reader and sounds too much like a formal sales email.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s too seller-centric, focusing more on product features than how it helps the prospect (high-level benefits).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It lacks specific and persuasive social proof. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unfortunately, even if this email did contain convincing social proof and powerful benefits, that information would be lost in the midst of overly complex sentences and dense blocks of text.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>How to improve this email<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By making your emails easy to read with short paragraphs and simple, conversational language, you\u2019re actually better able to highlight value and convince your readers to hit \u201creply.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In re-writing this email, I\u2019d do the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shorten the whole\u00a0email.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Craft a one-sentence opening paragraph that hooks the reader and is easy to read.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Focus on 1 or 2 high-level benefits instead of product features.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Edit out jargon and write in a way that\u2019s straightforward and conversational.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Add specific social proof.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make the subject line more enticing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remove links to improve email deliverability (links increase your chances of being marked as spam).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like the subject line, the first sentence of your email is super important. I\u2019m not a huge fan of Parley Pro\u2019s \u201cAs a CEO\u201d opener, because it feels too generic and disingenuine. It also doesn\u2019t inspire me to keep reading. I\u2019d prefer a first sentence that cuts through the fluff and speaks directly to a major pain-point or benefit, thus piquing my curiosity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With that in mind, here\u2019s how I\u2019d rewrite this email:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;SUBJECT: slow contracts<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hi Heather,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I have an idea on how {!Company} can shorten its sales cycle using one simple contract negotiation hack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">[1-2 sentence customer-centric description of service, focusing on high-level benefits.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">[Short 1-2 sentence paragraph on how Parley Pro has helped clients better negotiate contracts and shorten their sales cycles. Use specific stats and examples.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When do you have 15 minutes for a quick call?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Best regards,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">[Name]&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This email is much more approachable due to its shorter length. The one-sentence opener is easy on the eyes and gently guides the reader into the rest of the copy. The overall tone is customer-centric, and the content is focused on high-level value (a shorter sales cycle) with social proof.<\/p>\n<p>In general, one of the best ways to improve your cold emails is to ask yourself, \u201cWould I read and respond this email if it landed in my inbox?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Long, wordy emails are almost always a turn-off and can deter prospects who might very well find great value in your product or service.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Have bad cold emails in your inbox?
