If you want new ideas for proven sales and marketing hacks, look no further than 100 Days of Growth: 100 Actionable Tips to Grow Your Startup Faster by Sujan Patel and Rob Wormley.
As a cold email geek and sales consultant, I’m always on the look out for useful tips that I can pass on to my clients. However, few growth hacking, sales or businesses are very actionable. Unfortunately many “growth experts” base their knowledge on outdated sales practices that no longer work with today’s technology.
100 Days of Growth was the opposite of the growth books you typically find. It was actionable and to the point with 100 ideas you can easily try out yourself. It’s packed into 105 pages in an easily digestible format with:
- A brief overview of the tip
- Real world examples from successful companies
- 3 simple steps to help you apply each tip
- Reading resources for additional information
- 3 recommended tools to implement every tip.
Who needs to read 100 Days of Growth
Whether you’re a CEO at a burgeoning startup or the marketing director at an established company, Sujan and Rob offer insights into a wide variety of growth strategies. It’s a nice quick read for entrepreneurs and marketers aiming to improve brand messaging, reach more customers, and close more deals.
Here are 3 tips that we wanted to highlight from the book about email:
Growth Tip #60: The Rare CEO/Owner/Founder Email
This is the classic tactic of making customers feel extra special by sending an email as if it was from the founder or CEO. I’ve used this strategy myself in the past, and it’s always been very effective. However, the authors touch on an important point that you don’t want to kill this strategy by constantly overusing it.
They recommend using this tactic only when you really want feedback from customers, are making big changes to your company or product, or for other customer or company milestones.
Growth Tip #76: The Cold Email
I’m biased as a cold email geek, but I appreciate that this is included in the book because it’s so important. The authors give a few examples of good cold email pitches and case studies and recommend a few tools for tracking and optimizing cold emails.
Growth Tip #18: The Trigger-Based Email
Understanding where your prospects are in the sales cycle is crucial to developing the right message at the right time. I always tell my clients that email campaigns are the beginning of a conversation with your customers.
I love this tip because the authors challenge the idea of the generic, untargeted mass email.
They contend that converting prospects into regular customers, is all about nurturing relationships with highly personalized attention.
